Jeff Hunt
Jeff Hunt is the principal of Projelic, a consulting practice in Carmel, Indiana, and delivers every engagement himself. His advice on what to build draws on a career inside large companies and years of running his own businesses.
Inside large organizations
Jeff began his career in corporate IT working for a utility company and Martin Marietta, then spent 13 years as a Project Executive at IBM, based entirely at client sites. He was responsible for multi-year outsourcing contracts with large companies, spanning application development and IT infrastructure services.
The role depended on a thorough understanding of each client's operations. That meant knowing how its business processes worked, where its systems supported them and where they fell short, and what the contract committed IBM to deliver. He earned his PMP certification and became a certified IBM Project Executive.
Running his own businesses
After IBM, Jeff founded and ran several businesses, most notably a group of online publishing businesses that he operated for more than a decade. He acquired and sold websites and developed much of the software they ran on, including systems that generated articles automatically from structured data years before AI language models. As an owner, he had to justify every investment in software by what it returned, and he applies the same test to client work.
He is the author of The Website Investor (2014), a guide to buying and selling websites.
Consulting on AI
Since 2023, Jeff has advised small and mid-sized organizations on where AI can improve their operations, and he has built the applications that followed. The work has given him a detailed, current view of what AI does well, where it is still unreliable, and where conventional software or a redesigned process is the better investment.
