Approach
Most of the value in a project comes from improving the right things. Jeff helps you validate what is feasible and cost effective, and works with you to prioritize the opportunities to meet your goals.
Why the choice of project matters
Most organizations can see that some of their work could be done better, and many expect AI to help. Without a clear view of what AI can do today, it is easy to assume it can handle a task it cannot. It is also easy to choose AI where a simpler tool would do the job better, and the money then goes to the wrong problem. Every Projelic engagement begins by establishing what is possible and what it would be worth.
How a project runs
-
A first conversation
The first step is a free 30-minute phone call with Jeff Hunt about the organization and the work it wants to improve. By the end of the call, both sides know whether there is a fit and what a first step would involve.
-
Learning how the work is done today
Jeff talks with the staff who do the work, looks at the systems they use and finds out where their time goes.
-
A recommendation on what is feasible and what justifies the cost
Jeff explains what can be done, what AI can and cannot do for this work today, and what each option would take. Some problems call for AI, some for conventional software or automation, and some for a change to the process with no new software. The client decides what to do and in what order.
At a boat manufacturer, Jeff suggested reading vendor order confirmations and flagging orders at risk of missing their date as the first AI project. He advised against camera-based defect detection for now, because the current technology was not sufficiently reliable.
For an independent financial planning and wealth management firm, Jeff built an AI version and a conventional version of the same tool and compared them. The conventional version was faster and cheaper, so that is the one the firm received.
-
Building and checking the first tool
Work begins with the change the client chose first. Before staff rely on a new tool, its results are checked against the current way of doing the work.
-
Continued improvement
Once a tool is in use, it changes in small steps as the staff who use it ask for improvements. Organizations that want this continuing work can retain Jeff through Technology Partnership.
What the client provides
Most engagements need three things from the client:
- Time with the staff who do the work.
- A person who can set priorities and approve the result.
- Examples of the documents and data the work involves.
